We don’t just build powerful blast machines; we ensure they deliver optimal performance from day one. A critical part of this is our meticulous process of blast pattern optimization.
For every wheel blast machine we build, we use infrared cameras (attaches to a phone) to identify and fine-tune the “hot zone” – the area where the abrasive media most impacts the parts inside the blast chamber. This thermal imaging allows us to precisely adjust blast wheel settings for maximum efficiency.
Why an Optimized Blast Pattern Matters:
- Uniform Coverage: We strive for consistent intensity of blasting and complete coverage across your parts, even with multiple blast wheels, by creating a uniform blast zone without overlap or under-coverage.
- Faster Processing: A focused blast pattern means the abrasive media hits your parts directly and efficiently, potentially shortening the time required for blasting.
- Reduced Machine Wear: When the blast media is concentrated on the parts, less abrasive hits the inside of the chamber. This significantly reduces premature wear on liners and other internal components, leading to fewer repairs and lower maintenance costs.
- Consistent Quality: A consistent and repeatable blast pattern inside our chambers ensures uniform coloring and consistent quality for every finished part.
Maintain Your Edge: The Importance of Ongoing Monitoring
The optimal blast zone is unique to your parts and can change over time due to component wear or even when you switch media types. Without proper blast zone setup and ongoing monitoring, you risk inefficient blasting and increased wear on your machine’s blast chamber, particularly on components not designed for direct blasting.
This is why we recommend customers consider using their own infrared cameras (available as simple phone plug-ins). Regularly checking your blast pattern helps ensure you’re always achieving the most efficient blast possible, protecting your investment and maintaining peak performance.
At Gibson, we custom-tune the blast zone for your specific parts, ensuring your machine is optimized for your unique production needs. This dedication to precision sets our machines apart.
